Dr Sheppard studied in Adelaide and at ANU in Canberra where he completed a PhD specialising in child and adolescent psychology. He has been a Registered Psychologist and qualified Hypnotherapist since 1985. He has spent lengthy periods working in private practise with children and adults as well with high risk organisations (e.g. mining companies) where he has developed programs to promote mental health and behavioural safety. He regularly treats patients suffering from PTSD following their involvement in industrial accidents. In his experience many cases of mental illness, particularly anxiety and depression, are ultimately under the control of the patient. Dr Sheppard’s approach is to provide them with the tools to manage and, where possible, eliminate these conditions so that they can successfully manage their lives without the need for lengthy ongoing treatment.
